Stool Blood Test EZ Detect Stool Blood Test

The most modern, convenient and sanitary home test available. Simply drop a test pad in the toilet bowl after a bowel movement and if excess blood is present, a blue-green color will appear. The results are immediate and unmistakable. Unlike other tests, the patient will find EZ DETECT? neither offensive nor objectionable to use. All results are recorded on a postcard and sent back to the physician. Early detection of colorectal cancer can increase the chance of survival up to 87%. A fecal occult blood test is an easy and effective way to screen for excess blood in the stool which may be indicative of bowel problems, including colorectal cancer. The EZ DETECT? test has been clinically proven to be accurate for the detection of blood in the stool that may be a sign of gastrointestinal problems, including colorectal cancer, before symptoms appear. EZ DETECT? is recommended for individuals age 40+ or members of families with a history of colorectal cancer.

Intended Use
EZ DETECT? is intended for in vitro detection of occult blood in the stool - an early indicator of various gastrointestinal disorders.

Constituents and Usage
EZ DETECT? consists of a biodegradable paper (pad) upon which special reagents have been printed. The pad changes color when it comes in contact with blood. EZ DETECT? uses a pseudo-peroxidase reaction utilizing a chromogen which, when oxidized, produces a distinct blue-green color.

After a bowel movement, a pad is placed in the toilet and, if excess blood is present in the stool, a blue-green cross will appear within two minutes. The test is simple, safe, and sanitary, and requires no handling of the stool.

Clinical Application
Occult blood in the stool is one of the primary warning signals of many bowel problems. EZ DETECT? is designed to detect blood in the stool that can be caused by bleeding ulcers, hemorrhoids, polyps, colitis, diverticulitis, fissures or cancer of the colon.

The American Cancer Society recommends that men and women over 40 and those who have a personal family history of lower intestinal disorders use an occult blood test yearly or as often as their physician recommends.

Supplied Materials
The EZ DETECT? professional carton contains 48 complete test kits and one professional protocol. Each kit contains enough materials for each patient to perform test on three consecutive bowel movements, a check on the quality of the toilet water, and a quality control check on the test pads.

Test Procedure

EZ Detect Procedure
1. Before starting the test, the toilet bowl water is tested for adequacy. After the bowel movement, the patient places a test pad into the toilet. 2. The patient observes the pad. A blue-green cross will appear within two minutes if the test is positive. If no color appears, the test is negative. 3. Upon completion of the test, the patient records the results on the return postcard and mails it to the physician or screening center.

Each kit also contains a return postcard which allow the patients to record their results and send them to their physician.

Storage
The EZ DETECT? professional carton has a two year shelf life at room temperature (15-30 Degrees Celsius). During the testing period, the patient should store any unused test pads in the original foil pouch to protect them from light and moisture.

Performance Characteristics

Sensitivity
The sensitivity limits for fecal occult blood is 2.0 mg hemoglobin/100 ml water (equivalent to Hemoccult?).

Clinical Evaluation
EZ DETECT ? and Hemoccult? were tested on 101 patients. In both tests 22 patients were found positive and 79 patients were found negative for blood in the feces - a 100% correlation.

Accuracy and Prediction
A repetitive performance of the test (n=20) on a sample containing 2.0 mg hemoglobin/100 ml gave a positive result each time (100%). A repetitive performance of the test (n=20) on a sample devoid of hemoglobin gave a negative result each time (100%).
