The Problem - Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy (DPN)
- Nerve disease is the most common complication of diabetes. The most common form is Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy (DPN) and it affects more than half of all people with diabetes.
- DPN is primarily caused by chronically high blood glucose levels damaging the nerves in the body, mostly in the legs and feet.
- DPN reduces the ability to sense, which if severe, may make people unaware of injuries to their feet and can lead to foot ulcers which require expensive treatment.
Risk & Cost
- DPN is the primary trigger for diabetic foot ulcers which cost between $5,000 - $50,000 per episode to treat.
- Up to 75% of people with DPN have no symptoms. Without symptoms they are often not aware that there is a significant problem.
- The loss of sensation makes it difficult for people to notice foot injuries and treat them properly. What starts as a minor skin irritation (like stepping on a pebble) can become infected, develop into an ulcer, and eventually even lead to an amputation.
The Solution – Early Detection with NC-stat DPNCheck
- The NC-stat DPNCheck is a 60 second, portable battery operated non-invasive test that accesses the function of the sural nerve in the lower leg and ankle region.
- Nerve conduction testing is the most objective way to assess DPN. It provides numbers - much like blood glucose readings or blood pressure, which can be recorded and compared to future tests so that trends can be detected.
- Because DPN may show no signs or symptoms until the nerves have been substantially damaged, NC-stat DPNCheck allows for the early detection and intervention that is so critical in the effort to avoid foot ulcers and prevent the need for costly treatments.
- This cost effective test can be easily administered to your employees.
